Hello everyone,

I’ve written a detailed report on the recent U3A State Conference, which you can find in our June newsletter.

Looking ahead, the 2025 U3A Network Queensland State Conference will be held at Bribie Island from May 6th to 8th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to hear from various speakers and connect with fellow U3A members from across the state. There are plenty of chances to chat and socialize, whether it’s during the sessions, over morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, or at the enjoyable social events. This year’s highlights included a free welcome sausage sizzle on Tuesday, a meet and greet at the RSL club on Tuesday night, and the Conference Dinner on Wednesday night.

This was my third Conference, and I’ve always found the atmosphere to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. Bribie Island is just a short drive from Gympie, with accommodation options to suit all budgets. I encourage more of our Gympie members to attend the next Conference—I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Make sure to mark it in your diary!

We also had a special moment at the Conference: Lyn Browne, a former Gympie member who moved to Pine Rivers and served in various roles on their management committee, including two terms as president, was honored with a floral presentation for her many years of contribution to U3A. Some of you may remember Lyn from the Ancient History class with Iris. At the luncheon, Lyn used to dress up to highlight the Cat’s Claw problem.

The Network Qld AGM and committee elections were held on the last morning of the conference. I’m delighted to share that our own Trudy Graham was re-elected to the committee. Trudy does a fantastic job as our regional liaison officer—congratulations, Trudy!

On a personal note, I mentioned earlier that I submitted some artwork for the Art and Photography competition at the conference. I’m thrilled to announce that my entry won first prize, judged by Susi Muddiman OAM, the director of HOTA (Home of the Arts, Gold Coast).

Looking forward to seeing more of you at next year’s conference!

Warm regards,

Greg Jones
