PRESIDENT’S REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 2021

Hello Members,

Here’s to 2021 being a much better year than the confinements of 2020 brought us. Of course, we still have social distancing, hand sanitizing, and hygiene standards that have become the norm, but the most important thing, is if you are unwell, please stay at home. We can’t be too careful at our age.

U3A Gympie got off to a rousing start at our Open Day in January. After a somewhat jumbled start, things soon settled down and we had a very successful day. Of course, this couldn’t have happened without the dedicated committee, our tutors and volunteers who manned the tables, and the people from Gympie Bowls Club who helped us out with arranging the tables etc. Thank you so much to all of you. Your efforts were very much appreciated.

A big welcome to our new members, here’s to an enjoyable time and new friendships on your U3A journey. And it goes without saying, a huge welcome to our returning members, I look forward to catching up with you.

At the Open Day, I picked up a cushion, I think it was from the book club table. If this is yours, let me know, so it can be returned to you.

The committee have recently hired a storage shed for the equipment U3A has gathered over the years. If you have any stock of U3A, could you please let a committee member know and they can arrange for pick up or delivery from you.

Our AGM will be held on the Thursday, 4th March at Gympie Bowls Club, Southside starting at .2:00pm. All positions will be vacant and a new committee elected. We will be needing a new secretary, a publicity officer and ordinary committee members. If any of you out there feel you would make a difference, please think about putting your hand up. As I said, all positions will be vacant, so get a nomination form from a committee member and join us.  Have a great term 1.

Season’s Greetings

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and their families a very safe and happy holiday season.

Thank you for your continued support in 2020, here’s hoping that 2021 will be much kinder to us all.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Open Day on the 15th January, between 9.30 and 12.30 at Gympie Bowls Club, Southside.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hello from your president

Hello members, As we near the end of 2020, I would just like to say thank you for your continued support through a very difficult year. Sometimes I didn’t know if I was coming or going.

But December is a few days away, so I look forward to seeing most of you at our end of year function on Thursday 3rd of December for our end of year lunch. Some of you may have noticed that I put the RSVP as the 24th March….of course I meant November!!! My brain fast forwards sometimes… Entry is by ticket only, so let your tutor or myself know if you want to come and havent purchased tickets yet. These are selling fast, so get in soon.

Of course, Im looking forward to 20231 as being a much better year for everyone. We are having our open day at the Gympie Bowls club at Southside, same as last year. We will be there from 9.30 to 12.30. Im hoping all our tutors can come on the day, to give you an insight of what each class entails. But more on that later.

Looking forward to catching up with all of you sooner rather than later

Evie

Commencement of Classes for Term 3

Classes will resume on the 13th July 2020. Due to Covid 19 and social distancing laws, some classes will have new rooms.

There will be a sign on morning on the 29th June at 10.00 am at the duck ponds, in the rotunda highway side. We need to know how many people are attending each class. If you can’t make sign on, please email : u3a@u3agympie.com or alternatively call Denice on 0490 757 458.

At this stage, it looks like we wont be having our Aqua classes until Term 4. I will let you know as soon as I know any more about the aquatic centre reopening
